Dangerous diets: The vegan, vegetarian, and the carnivorous

Vegetarian and vegan diets are safe and promote healthy well-being for individuals who practice it. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics states the vegetarian or vegan diet is safe for children to even adopt.  These diets have been portrayed as dangerous because its is more difficult to get some of the key and essential nutrients, however as long as the individuals are taking the proper initiative to obtain the necessary nutrients it is safe.  It is a halfhearted argument  because with guidance and awareness, as all diets require, it is a safe and healthy lifestyle.  
In addition athletes who have adopted vegetarian diets have seen no ill effects on performance and heavy exertion in sport and training.
This myth can be easily avoided with the awareness of what nutrients you need and then obtaining the adequate amount. The argument that it is unsafe or not practical due to lack of obtaining nutrients, is deceptive because this argument can be directed towards any diet, including diets with meat consumption.

Any diet is dangerous if they are conducted wrongly.

 With this view, let’s assess the case of 97% of the U.S. population’s diet lacking the requirements of potassium, not obtaining the sufficient amount of 4,700 mg a day. (There are only about 4% of individuals in the United States that are vegetarian) The  97% of U. S. citizens (carnivores and vegetarians) are also practicing a dangerous diet in this respect by also not meeting their nutritional needs. How could that number be brought down? Awareness and guidance would alter that high percentage and limit the dangers of being potassium deficient.

Consumption of potassium by the populace would change the results of people not meeting recommended needs of nutrients. To change that staggering deficiency individuals would simply ingest potassium to meet the criterion. The same is with the worries of adopting a vegetarian or vegan diet.  You simply need the guidance of implementing fortified foods, correct foods, or supplements that will give the individuals adequate levels of required nutrients and the supposed “danger” is avoided entirely.
Typically, due to their initiative of altering and structuring their diet already, vegan and vegetarians are healthier than the average American and are more willing to change their consumption practices. There are numerous health benefits to adopting these diets. Heart disease is prominent within the United States. Vegetarians are 1/3 less likely to develop cardiovascular disease than meat eaters. This is due to variances in blood pressure, body weight, and cholesterol levels aiding their reduction in risk of cardiovascular diseases.
As research supports, benefits for conscientious vegetarians include better well-being with fewer chronic illnesses than the typical American. The vegetarian diet is cost effective, safe, and relatively easy to implement and isn’t any more dangerous than any other diet when approached seriously. The adoption of eating more vegetables and subtracting meat has great benefits in the body with the correct guidance and approach. A plant-based diet can certainly offer adequate nutrition through legumes, whole grains, and vegetables and should be encouraged as a healthful alternative for those who show curiosity and interest.
