The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics states the vegetarian or vegan diet is safe for children to even adopt. These diets have been portrayed as dangerous because its is more difficult to get some of the key and essential nutrients, however as long as the individuals are taking the proper initiative to obtain the necessary nutrients it is safe. It is a halfhearted argument because with guidance and awareness, as all diets require, it is a safe and healthy lifestyle.

This myth can be easily avoided with the awareness of what nutrients you need and then obtaining the adequate amount. The adoption of eating more vegetables and subtracting meat has great benefits in the body with the correct guidance and approach. A plant-based diet can certainly offer adequate nutrition through legumes, whole grains, and vegetables and should be encouraged as a healthful alternative for those who show curiosity and interest.
