What The Health is a documentary available for streaming on Netflix. This is a review of its facts and it’s approach.

Is What The Health True?

Let me prelude that I have adopted veganism for quite sometime, but now I am a long-time vegetarian, I consume eggs & on occasion fish to make sure I have adequate B vitamins. I first started a website to help people build healthy muscle, and feel overall better.

 Along this ride I came across the factory farm industry and saw its horror. I then became a vegetarian and wanted to write about doing the most good you can with what you can, while maintaining optimum health.

I’m not whimsical or crazy about animals I just cannot contribute to companies mechanizing animals in that manner. The disregard for their well-being and conditions they’re kept in are what led me to my opting out of contributing to that system. The choice is simply based in the ethics of treatment of animals, not some fantasy driven intent that everything can live in coexistence. With that out of the way let’s begin.

I recently saw a documentary What The Health. I was concerned with their facts. I had taken biology, I understand metabolism at an intermediate level. They stated some profoundly disturbing accusations, and connected some obscure topics together. It seemed off, I had watched this with a registered dietitian and my concerns with their facts had been verified.


 From the beginning, it was very obvious that this was going to be a slanted documentary.

What drove this home to me that this was a crazed attempt at turning people to plant based eating at the expense of the truth, and possibly years off people’s lives. Their approach and lack of concern  will scare, intimidate, and confuse millions of people on Netflix. That is when I decided to write this.


Why it’s the most negligent documentary on Netflix.

They were showing individuals that were suffering from cancer & diabetes. They purported that they had adopted fasting and solely eating plants and were remarkably cured, one was just after a mere 2 weeks of this dietary change. This is wrong. This is not true. It is dangerous. They’re using a platform to justify their way of living at the expense of peoples lives with no reputable proof besides their obscurantist documentary.

People are going to see this show and think that the “holistic” approach is going to cure them. It is to the utmost craven, dangerous, and irresponsible documentary I’ve seen. They pinpointed doctors only who they agreed with, and made it seem like everyone who eats meat is at risk for diabetes and cancer. They completely minimized sugar’s contribution to diabetes.


What goes wrong with Vegans.

Now this is a broad generalization, as a caveat there are people who do not do this. I was vegan at one point. This is not a large scale attack on individuals who practice it. But a large scale attack on manipulating and scaring people about the evidence with falsities. This documentary was exemplary at what not to do or approach other people in regards to food their preference.

They forcefully impose their virtue everywhere.


The phone call.

This is a regularity in this documentary. The lead narrator, a flat bill hat enthusiast atop a disheveled head of hair, and should be considered a mockumenter and obscurantist, calls The American Heart Association and Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

While on the help line he speaks with what sounds like customer service representatives and hijacks the conversation stating similar bunkum attacking all meat. This is a clear example on how vegans and virtuous plant based eaters inflate themselves to dish out photosynthetic virtue. This was a scene for the documentary to create alarmism and conspiracy, not to insight meaningful change to help animal suffering.

What troubled me was with the confabulation of processed meat, and red meat. Processed meat should be avoided. It is not good for you. But they interchangeably used the concern for processed meat, alongside red meat, when there is no clear evidence that red meat holds the same concerns.

There is evidence that has been strongly associated with eating processed meat and cancer. But they also lump red meat inside this interchangeably throughout the documentary. This is disingenuous. They praise studies, but don’t cite them correctly or use vernacular incorrectly to obscure and demonize all meat. This is justifying their ends with obscure means to fit their ideology rather than facts and help people.

The one study they do cite from a credible source, Harvard Health, was later dismissed, researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) directed a systematic review to differentiate between types of meat. This review found that eating processed meat was associated with a 19% higher risk of type 2 diabetes; however, the researchers did not find any larger risk of diabetes among individuals eating unprocessed red meat, such as pork, lamb, or beef.

This study defined unprocessed red meat as any meat from beef, pork, or lamb that hasn’t been preserved by any salting, curing, smoking, or with chemical preservatives.

Examples of processed meats include:

  • Salami

  • Sausages

  • Hot dogs

  • Lunch meats

You should eat less meat, but you shouldn’t be lied to, emotionally hijacked, or manipulated to convince you in order to do that. 


They used processed meat and red meat, deeming them both “meat” which they are, but not in the research. There are stark differences in the repercussions of consuming processed vs red.

The World Health Organization states this –

 “Eating red meat has not yet been established as a cause of cancer. However, if the reported associations were proven to be causal, the Global Burden of Disease Project has estimated that diets high in red meat could be responsible for 50 000 cancer deaths per year worldwide.”

But they use gorilla tactics for the sake of spectacle using these interchangeably speaking with people who are not in power to make changes anyways.



“Egg yolks contain 90 percent of the calcium, iron, phosphorus, zinc, thiamin, B6, folate, pantothenic acid and B12 of the egg,” according to John Berardi, Ph.D. They also contain antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids and change dense LDL cholesterol to large LDL, which is harmless.

One review of 17 studies with a total of 263,938 participants showed that eating eggs had no effect on the risk of heart disease or stroke in non-diabetic individuals.

This large-scale assessment (gauging the results of many and large studies) is what is needed to derive facts. Not perusing through scientific findings that coincide with your message. This is what this documentary does, and it is craven, negligent, and should be looked upon in the future as a time capsule of pure delusion.


 Attacking Is Not The Answer

Eating is one of the most pleasurable things we do on a day to day basis. When a stranger, or acquaintance questions or attacks how you act during that pleasurable and deeply intimate experience, the person approached feels it is an attack on themselves.

Mostly people don’t like being told how they’ve been living their entire way is the wrong way. It’s an attack on their identity. Especially when it is out of nowhere with pinpointed studies that are barraged one after another.

When plant based eaters have their vegan canon of facts ready to shove down your throat because you put flesh down yours, it causes nothing but adversity and no ground is made on either side. It is a really horrible approach to informing people. Don’t be a crazy person, don’t attack, listen, don’t just wait to talk.

Veganism is the ultimate sacrifice to suffering, but people do it for social position, bonding and cooperation, and social distinction. They then use that social distinction as fuel to put their virtue on others, because that feels good. This documentary will no doubt reach a million people, and if a percentage of people believe it, it has the potential to have years taken off of people’s lives.

You should ALWAYS adhere to your physicians protocols when it comes to making health based choices, not adopting a holistic approach that has no basis in reality for your fatal illnesses.
